The Ghost Of Tony Blair Finally Excorcised

Wed ,30/09/2009

With the advent of today’s front page in The SUN we can safely assume that New Labour has finally excorcised the ghost of Tony Blair.

Add to that the weight of the endorsement for David Cameron and it’s very difficult to see how ANY member of the PLP can paint this in a good light.

Gordon Brown waves goodbye (to his job)

Gordon Brown waves goodbye (to his job)

In 1997 Tony Blair had the enthusiasm and vigour to lift his Party into power the public opinion of the Government of the day was stale, weak, feeble (seem familiar)?

Tony Blair did do some good work as Leader of his Party but he also made some horrific mistakes as Prime Minister of this country some of which he has yet to stand accountable for. But New Labour was nothing without its founding fathers, the Campbells, the Mandelsons and the Blairs. Once Gordon Brown forced them out of the picture he effectively applied for his own P45.

Following yestereday’s speech at the Labour Party conference in Brighton Gordon Brown stands even more isolated amongst his Party. The Cabinet were full of glowing praise yesterday but I maintain this will last only a very short time.

Already in several interviews this morning Cabinet members have been wheeled out to explain the drop in support from The SUN. Their response?

Papers have no influence. It wasn’t The SUN what won it in ’97

Typically Labour, deceit to the end. Not just to the electorate but also to themselves.

Things can only get better

Dear Parliamentary Labour Party in 1997 you gave us your vision.

In 1997 you set out your plans for the Future of Britain. You laid out your manifesto which began with the following words

Britain will be better with new Labour

“Our case is simple: that Britain can and must be better”

“The vision is one of national renewal, a country with drive, purpose and energy”

“In each area of policy a new and distinctive approach has been mapped out, one that differs from the old left and the Conservative right. This is why new Labour is new”

“New Labour is a party of ideas and ideals but not of outdated ideology. What counts is what works. The objectives are radical. The means will be modern”

“This is our contract with the people”

We all know how the intervening 12 years has gone and it ain’t good.

The Dead Rose of the Dead Labour Party

The Dead Rose of the Dead Labour Party

Would you also like to be reminded of the closing paragraph of your manifesto?

Leadership, not isolation: There is a sharp division between those who believe the way to cope with global change is for nations to retreat into isolationism and protectionism, and those who believe in internationalism and engagement. Labour has traditionally been the party of internationalism.

Britain cannot be strong at home if it is weak abroad. The tragedy of the Conservative years has been the squandering of Britain’s assets and the loss of Britain’s influence. A new Labour government will use those assets to the full to restore Britain’s pride and influence as a leading force for good in the world.

With effective leadership and clear vision, Britain could once again be at the centre of international decision-making instead of at its margins. This manifesto contains the detail of our plans. We have promised only what we know we can deliver.

Britain deserves better and the following five election pledges will be the first steps towards a better Britain. If you would like to help us build that better Britain, join us by calling 0990 300 900

Does that strike a very familiar chord with today’s situation?

No surprise then that if you dial that number you get

The number you have dialed has not been recognised

How very prophetic!

Is Lord Mandelson the source of the unaskable question?

Mon ,28/09/2009

Yesterday I resisted the temptation to blog about the Andrew Marr question as it was widely covered from every angle and all Tory supporters on Twitter were subject to a barrage of abuse for being lowlife and scummy as if it was us that put Andrew Marr up to it; obviously we did not.

In fact, the vast majority of Tory supporters have slated Marr for his personal attack on Gordon Brown when there were so many other lines he could have gone down, so many other credible routes that would have given rise to some prime Gordon bumbling, but he didn’t, he asked that question.

The PM himself said

These questions, these questions, of course you might be right to ask them

So in my mind that gives us permission to discuss them.

The question was worded in such a way though that the PM was allowed to answer it with his own selective discussion. He simply answered the question with ‘no’, but was he referring to the specific part of the question that said ‘to get by’?

I don’t doubt there will be questions next week specifically with regards to David Cameron and drugs and the questions that were asked in the run-up to the leadership contest.

But, this morning following Lord Mandelson’s salvo against the BBC I asked the following question on Twitter

Imagine, just for one minute if the ‘Marr’ question was a plant by the PLP would be a great coup for #Gordon and #Mandy

This may not be as silly as it sounds, lambast the RIGHT with false claims as if it was their fault knowing full well the source could not be revealed because it is closer to home.

Why else would Lord Mandelson be continually giving this story legs?

Is this the start of the dirty tricks campaign?

Gordon Brown: ‘…go on, you know you want to…’

Fri ,25/09/2009

It seems that all the stops are being pulled out to save the PM.

In a 2 pronged attack from both Stateside and the UK the little worms were out doing their work to convince us.

In the UK: It was announced today that Sarah Brown is now the ‘UK’s most popular Twitter user’ (not my words) as clearly her husband knows that no matter how many followers you have it doesn’t make you popular.

Neither is the word ‘prolific’ correct that some Socialists have been bounding around this evening with regards the user with the highest number of followers.

The plain fact of the matter is that most of the recent followers are badgering Sarah to convince her naive old man to quit before he loses not just his job and the General Election but loses it for the PLP for at least a generation if not forever.

Whilst Stateside: Both Sarah and Gordon have been cosying up to the US President in every way possible. As these two pictures will testify.

oooh, they're not sweaty like Gordons, are they?

oooh, they're not sweaty like Gordons, are they?

But perhaps the most shocking image of the day is…

Go on, you know you want to, ive shaved my palms...

Go on, you know you want to, i've shaved my palms...

Lord have mercy on us all!

BBC Question Time returns tonight, until then…

Thu ,24/09/2009

The summer recess can seem a very long time, in face, 12 weeks is a very long time but it is soon coming to a close.

Like the first Swallow or the Lark or Cuckoo the new season is heralded by something equally fantastic. Tonight sees the return of Question Time on the BBC.

In preparation for tonight’s guests Harriet Harman, Lord Heseltine, David Laws, Lord Digby Jones and Fraser Nelson I thought it wise to add a little humour before the opening night (the BBC are allowing the embedding of video’s onto all sites by the end of September but that is still a week away so until then you have to click the links).

John Major on a panel of one.

Power of the audience (this really should pertain to Lord Mandelson nowadays).

Boris, Jo, Bernard, Roy and many many more.

Shirley Williams in an uncomfortable moment Who is the ‘young gentleman? What is he doing today? Let’s find him, he’s a star.
